The Giant Pandas used to be called by three scientific names that are Ursus melanoleuca, Aeluropus, and Ailuropoda melanoleuca (Cheung). Lately, Ailuropoda melanoleuca is the stable name of this animal which aliuropoda means cat-footed and melanoleuca means the large black and white kind (Cheung). The giant pandas belong to Ursidae family, Carnivora order, Mamalia class, Chordata phylum (Cheung, Wikipedia). Their relative is the spectacled bear of South America (Wikipedia).
